FireGlow
“FireGlow”
Staring quietly into the void
Will our love prevail, will our fear take hold
Of this fragile dream of a distant past?
“Once upon” was here as the hours walked past our door
Marred by the unknown
The uncertainty of what’s to come
Will you hold my hand - Will you let me go
When it all comes down to one last call?
Will you flip the switch and go back in time?
Will we save ourselves from US this time?
Will this be the end? Will new flowers grow?
Will we still be here to watch the Fireglow?
Watch the Fireglow
Standing still right inside the Gates
To unmask the grief that reverberates
Across the room,
Across the street,
Across The Universe
Let “The Bells” ring
I wrote this poem on the evening of March 19th, 2020 - during Lockdown - clearly inspired by the worldwide spread of COVID19 and the profound effects the deadly virus brought into our homes, our communities and our world.
Of special significance to me is the final stance of this poem as it references works by two of my favorite artists.
“Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world”
John Lennon
“Oh, the bells, bells, bells!
What a tale their terror tells
How they clang and clash and roar
What a horror they outpour”
Edgar Allan Poe
